DISCOVERING SCALES
Carme Pigem | RCR Arquitectes

Carme Pigem is a founding partner of RCR Arquitectes. With Rafael Aranda and Ramon Vilalta she started the office in 1987 in Olot, Spain. Their work is characterized by a simple refined architectural language, born in response to the terrain of their local Catalan region and a highly sophisticated aesthetic sensibility.

RCR Arquitectes has won many international competitions, including the Waalsekrook Mediatec in Belgium, the Soulages Museum in France, the Hofheide Crematorium in Belgium and the Edge Business Bay in Dubai. They have received numerous awards for their work; the National Award in Architecture in Catalonia in 2005 and the International Award 2011 of the Belgian Building Awards among others; and have been finalists for the European Union Mies Van der Rohe Award three times. The partners were named Honorary Fellows of the American Institute of Architecture in 2010.

Carme Pigem will discuss the practice’s exploration of different scales in architecture, using examples from projects such as the much-celebrated Bodegas Bell-lloc winery and the Library and Centre for the Elderly in Barcelona.

An exhibit reception will be held in Architecture Hall 250 prior to the lecture at 5:30 pm. The lecture and reception are sponsored by the NAC | Architecture. Both events are free and open to the public.
