Oct 28 | Robert F. Gatje – Illustrated Book Talk

Robert Gatje

Where: The Miller Hull Partnership 71 Columbia, Sixth Floor

When: Thursday, 10/28 at 6 pm

What: Please join us for an illustrated talk by architect Robert F. Gatje, FAIA, based on his experiences writing the recently published “Great Public Squares, An Architect’s Selection.”

Inspired by the 19th century thumbnail sketches of the great Austrian critic, Camillo Sitte, and the insight of Professor Paul Zucker in judging squares as containers of space, this new book features shadowed, colorful plans at identical scale that allow everyone to rank their favorites and compare them to the greats – Piazza di San Marco, Place des Vosges, and Old Town Prague. These maps help you understand solid and void, grasp street patterns, and, in some cases, identify significant works of architecture.

Robert Gatje is a New York architect, a former partner of Marcel Breuer
and Richard Meier, and author of “Marcel Breuer: A Memoir.”
