The UW Department of Architecture is pleased to welcome Sheila O’Donnell as the 2010 Mahlum Endowed Lecturer. In addition to the lecture there will be an exhibit of watercolor sketches by O’Donnell + Tuomey in 250 Architecture Hall from 1 to 5 November 2010. A public reception for the exhibit will be held prior to the lecture.

Sheila O’Donnell is a partner in the Dublin-based architecture firm O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects. She and John Tuomey established their practice in 1988 and have since developed an international reputation for the design of cultural and educational buildings. Among the firm’s best-known works are An Gaeláras: the Irish Language Arts and Cultural Centre, the Sean O’Casey Community Centre, the Ranelah Multi-Denominational School, the Lewis Glucksman Gallery at the University of Cork, the Furniture College of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and the Irish Film Centre in Dublin. The practice has been honored with more than 50 national and international awards and commendations over the past 20 years. It has won the AAI Downes Medal for Excellence in Architectural Design six times in the 12 years in which it has been awarded, and in 2005 the firm received the RIAI Gold Medal, the highest award given for Irish architecture.
